Welcome to the Museum of Mount San Michele
As a testament to the events that took place in this area during the Great War, Mount San Michele was declared a National Monument Zone in 1922.
The museum offers a truly unique immersive experience thanks to its interactive multimedia tools and contents that are able to transmit information and especially emotions, regarding the events of the Italian-Austrian front that have affected Mount San Michele and the Lower Isonzo front.
Download the 'San Michele VR' app
The museum's offer is enriched by Augmented Reality (AR). Accessible in some points of the outdoor museum itinerary through the San Michele VR mobile app, it is dedicated to the entire sacred area. It will give you more information about the monuments, the visit routes, the galleries of Cima 3 and the entrenched lines.
To download the app, scan the QR code with your smartphone or search for 'San Michele VR' in the app stores.
The experience in the museum
The museum allows you to experience firsthand the events of the Great War on Mount St. Michael: a unique and engaging journey through 2D interactive maps and 3D reconstructions of the Cima 3 gunner gallery and the cave named after General Lukachich. In the VR 360 Room, 15 workstations equipped with headsets and viewers allow visitors to witness life in the trenches, listen to the stories of war correspondents, and finally relive the tragic gas attack of 29 June 1916 and the overflight of the Doberdò Plateau aboard a Spad XIII aircraft piloted by Francesco Baracca.
The Gunner under Cima 3
The gunner gallery, built beneath Cima 3 between October 1916 and June 1917 for defensive purposes, later served as the tactical command headquarters of the Italian Third Army. During the visit, visitors can explore the history of this fortification through augmented reality.
The external visiting path
By purchasing the museum ticket, visitors can activate augmented reality (AR) content, visible along the external pedestrian museum path, at the gunner gallery and the Lukachich cave. On-site signage allows you to activate multimedia content in augmented reality (AR) via the mobile app: by framing the AR target through your smartphone's lens, you will see 3D holograms appear on the screen and hear stories related to the events that took place in these locations.
